It’s Never Too Late

April 22, 2022      Amy Cady

Sometimes there are things in life that we only get one shot at. But so, so many things we get to try again if we mess up. Isn’t that the best news ever?? If there are things in your life you would like to change, take the chance and do it now! Your future self says, “thank you!” ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s never too late to choose to be kind.
It’s never too late to have others in mind.
It’s never too late to give someone a hug.
It’s never too late to drop being smug.
It’s never too late to pray for you day.
It’s never too late to stop and to play.
It’s never too late to serve with a smile.
It’s never too late to chat for a while.
It’s never too late to see good in the grey.
It’s never too late to give up the dismay.
It’s never too late to listen with love.
It’s never too late for the Lord up above.
It’s never too late to do the right thing.
It’s never too late to change everything.

The Great Room

April 20, 2022      Amy Cady

Some people call it a living room. Some a sitting room. Maybe it’s a family room to you and yours. Or maybe, like at our house, it’s called a great room. Whatever you call it, it’s a wonderful place to gather with those you love and create priceless memories. โค

This may look just like a living room –
At least that’s what most people would assume.
But hidden just beneath all that
This rug doubles as a wrestling mat.
This couch a long, blue trampoline.
These chairs must contain some jumping beans.
They also double as a throne –
We forgive you if you haven’t known.
This table may be where books have been
But also doubles as a climbing gym.
Sometimes this table is a road
Where cars are driven and trucks unload.
We spread picnics out across this floor.
The cat naps here, and then naps some more.
On Christmas you may never guess
Just what this room is – it’s such a mess.
Then there’s lazy Friday nights
That just want a break from sibling fights.
So then it becomes a movie spot.
Complete with cookies, nice and hot.
On cold days it’s a warm retreat
Where we dry our clothes and dry our feet.
Some days we try and keep it clean.
Okay, maybe that’s a useless dream.
The dog may claim that it’s all hers –
Also that more pets are what she deserves.
But more important than all these things
Are the memories that this room brings.
A place where we can love and share.
A place where we can love and care.
A place where we can spend our day.
A place where we can laugh and play.
A place where we can sing loud songs.
A place where we can all belong.
A place where love can do its part
And sweet memories fill our tender hearts.
And now that you know, you may all assume
Why we all love this living room.

My Little Brothers {A Poem by Madalyn!}

April 19, 2022      Amy Cady

I have a notebook I carry around everywhere I go. It’s where I write poems or ideas for poems. Occasionally, when I’m not paying attention, my kids will add random things to my collection. Like this little poem Madalyn wrote last year. Maybe she is glad to have little brothers around… ๐Ÿ™‚

My Little Brothers
By Madalyn Cady – age 10 (Nov. 2021)

I have two little brothers
Amazing as can be.
They show me joy in everything.
I’m glad they’re here with me.

A Breakup

April 18, 2022      Amy Cady

Do you ever let your old friend Fear hold you back? It’s all good. We all do it at times, (myself included – far more than I wish was the case…) But little by little, I’m learning to work through my fears and be brave. Truth: it’s not as easy as I wish it was, but it is something I am able to do when I put my mind to it. And I know you can too. ๐Ÿ™‚

Fear, my old friend, it’s time to say goodbye.
It’s time for me to be brave, it’s time for me to try.
It’s time for me to listen to what my heart is telling me.
It’s time for me to be the person God needs me to be.
Many times, along our way, you’ve kept me safe from harm.
But now I need to be the one to let go of your charm.
I need to do the things you tell me are too hard.
All your silly little warnings – I’m going to disregard.
Because too long you’ve kept me in a place not good for me
And now I want to live my life from a place where I feel free.
You can come and visit me every now and then
But I’ll have to kick you out if you hold be back again.
Sometimes you’re too controlling – yes, I know you think it’s good.
But there’s usually not much danger lurking in my neighborhood.
Fear old friend, I no longer care what others think.
I see Life waiting there and it’s time I took a drink.
So, I’m going to fix my hair up, and dress up nice and neat.
Then I’m going to walk around on my own two little feet.
No longer carry you around – a burden on my back.
No longer listen to the things you seem to think I lack.
No longer listen to you “think that I’m no good”.
Or “Of course you think I won’t – even if I could”.
Because old friend, the truth is simply: “Yes I can!”
I can do hard things no matter where I am.
I am kind and good, with the Savior by my side
And He always has my back, if His teaching I abide.
Old friend, the truth is, you’re being replaced by someone new.
Yes, old friend, Faith knows of all the things that I can do.
Faith is always there for me to help me on my way.
Faith is always there for me at any time of day.
Faith likes to remind me that the Hard Times help me grow.
Faith likes to cheer me on when I get up and I go.
Faith helps me see the good where you only see the bad.
Faith helps me see my blessings, helps me feel content and glad.
And Fear, there are things in life I just can’t do with you.
Things I need to do that you’ll never want me to.
So, Fear old friend, its time now we simply part our ways.
Faith will now be my tag along for the rest of my long days.
So, Fear old friend, it comes the time for us to say goodbye.
For with my new friend Faith now, it’s time for me to fly.

I’ll Be His Hands

April 13, 2022      Amy Cady

Sometimes I think we are caught up too much in the pain of our trials and fail to see the blessings. Or once we are through them, do we move on too quickly? I can tell you firsthand – Pain and sorrow are real y’all. But so are the blessings that come when they teach us to be more compassionate and Christlike. They help us see the sorrow and suffering of others. Nothing makes me feel more disappointed than witnessing someone go through difficult times and fail to change into a nicer, kinder person. Don’t let this be you! Instead of being burdened by your trials, let them lift you as you reach out and lift others. For what a joy will be the day when you learn of all the good you did while serving others as Christ would.

With my broken heart I bleed
But now I understand your need.
And so, with words to heal your heart
I’ll stay right here and not depart.
With this loneliness I feel
I clearly now see yours concealed.
And so, I’ll sit right here with you –
Listen to what you need me to.
With my wounded heart and soul
I now can lovingly console.
And so, I’ll sit and hold your hand
Because I truly understand.
With anguish that envelops me
I hear the anguish in your plea.
And so, with humble heart and hand
I’ll guide you since I know firsthand.
Maybe these things aren’t so bad
If they help us be humble and glad.
Help us be more like God’s Son –
The one and only Perfect One.
So, I’ll do the things I do
As if the Savior were here with you.
For, oh, to fathom what he has done –
The magnitude of the battle won!
The sacrifice He gladly made.
His love will never, ever fade.
And so, a simple price to pay
To be His Hands each of my days.

The Savior’s Love {A Poem by Madalyn!}

April 12, 2022      Amy Cady

I challenged Madalyn to write a poem about the Savior or Easter this week. She made several attempts and the computer deleted one so there was frustration. But then later that day she got an excited look and asked for the computer. This sweet gem is what she gave me. ๐Ÿ˜

The Savior’s Love
By Madalyn Cady – age 10 (April 2022)

Jesus Christ loves you and me.
So much He died with humility.
To save us from all death and sin,
So that we may someday live again.
