Dreams {A Poem by Madalyn!}

June 14, 2022      Amy Cady

I had a birthday a few weeks ago. I’ve had a lot of crazy birthdays in my life, (like my grandma died on my birthday one year for instance) and my birthday often causes me a great deal of anxiety, so my family tries hard every year to make it a great day. This year, Madalyn spent all her hard-earned money on a sweet little box of gifts for me. There were some snacks, a candle, a card, and a little notebook and pen. (She knows me well! ๐Ÿ˜‰ )The best surprise was a little poem I found in the inside cover of the little notebook. A little poem that she wrote herself just for me! Of course I’ll treasure it always. โค

Dreams
By Madalyn Cady – Age 10 (May 2022)

Grab your dream
And hold it tight.
Never let it
Out of sight.

Rainy Days

June 13, 2022      Amy Cady

We have had a really wet, cold Spring so far here in our corner of the Pacific Northwest. It doesn’t feel like summer is officially starting in less than a week and it’s hard to believe my poor family in Arizona are having opposite weather with heat and summer wildfires. But secretly I am loving our weather this year! I know it’s causing issues with crops and most everyone else probably hates it, including my motorcycle loving husband, but I am a rain lover, so my soul is happy, happy, happy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, what a beautiful day!
So very wet and very grey.
I love the soothing, steady sound
Of rain falling quickly to the ground.
I love the freshness that fills the air.
That replaces my worries and silly cares.
I love the calmness all around.
The quiet of not many other sounds.
I love the promise of a brand-new start.
The happiness it brings my heart.
And with each gentle pitter patter
My soul refills for things that matter.
And so, I breathe the cool air in
Grateful for this day again.

A Simple Choice

June 10, 2022      Amy Cady

We live in such a lucky time period! Yes, there are terrible things in the world but there are equally wonderful things in the world as well. We live on the earth when there are living prophets and apostles to lead and guide us. We can study their lives and their teachings. Even still, for some people that is a hard choice to make. And others make that choice but it’s not easy to always be obedient. Sometimes, it’s all about a change in perspective. Reminding ourselves that it really is worth it, and the Savior is always only a simple prayer away, waiting there to help us!

As I listened to the prophet’s voice
I knew I had a simple choice:
I could love and heed his words
Or claim each one simply absurd.
The choice was really up to me,
Which side I made the choice to be.
With those who found his words to lack,
Another burden on their backs.
Who find their happiness in play.
The casual, slothful, popular way.
Or I could keep the peace of mind
That comes as I stay firmly aligned
With the Savior’s spokesman today
Who humbly leads and guides the way.
A place where if I always stay,
Happiness can’t help but come my way.
Really, what an easy choice.
Of course, I’ll listen to a prophet’s voice.

Mini/Ruby

June 8, 2022      Amy Cady

It’s been a little crazy around our house lately. We adopted this cute little furry friend last week from our local animal shelter. She won our hearts pretty quickly. While she’s not a Friendly Old Collie, she is a very sweet little puppy, and we are excited to share our family adventures with her. She loves to be around us and explore her new home. I think any animal lover will tell you: it’s not always you who does the rescuing. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We found a little friend today
With four paws and a wagging tail.
And a super sniffer of a nose
That can always find the trail.
We thought that we had rescued her
And brought her here to love –
A playmate for our Charlotte Rose
To run and chase and shove.
But the kindness in her big brown eyes
With the gentleness in her paws
And the playfulness in each leap
Always gives us pause.
And so, I think that soon we’ll learn
It’s not us who rescued her.
But that we’re the lucky ones
That’s it’s us that she preferred.

An Optimist’s Creed

June 6, 2022      Amy Cady

Anyone else tired of how bleak the world seems to be? I have learned to mostly ignore the news but even still – sometimes it’s hard to get away from the “Bad, Bad, Bad, and More Bad!” Seriously. There has been bad in the world since the beginning of time people. No matter the era. No matter the generation. I believe you are probably Remarkable and living your life Better Every Day. You may even have Big Dreams that are changing the world. Don’t let the bad get you down! So here’s the way to change that. It’s hard work. It’s effort. But I challenge you to challenge those believes and look for good at least once a day. I’m sure you will find it most refreshing. ๐Ÿ™‚

When I look around this world
The good is what I see –
Not just the people wronged
But the good in you and me.
Not just the things that hurt
But the things that lift and praise.
And this is how I want to spend
Each of my dear days.

The King of Mischief

June 1, 2022      Amy Cady

Two of my three boys could easily claim the title of the King of Mischief. Bo is still a little young at 17 months, but he may decide to follow in his brother’s footsteps someday. Ah, the power of example. Or perhaps just the nature of boys… No matter what the secret behind the mischief is, or how crazy it makes me, (or how many bugs are dropped in my soup…) I somehow still love them and stick around. I must be crazy. Or just a mom. ๐Ÿคฃ

Hello there, I’m the King of Mischief
And I’d like to welcome you to my lair.
I give you now fair warning
That you watch yourself with care.
Because if your not too careful,
The thing is that you just might,
Take a step where you don’t want to be
And end up in my sight.
And then you never know just what
May befall itself on you.
Like a steady stream of water
Or a ball that I just threw.
Maybe bugs will find their way
In the food that you just ate.
Perhaps the food will disappear
You thought was waiting on your plate.
Maybe my face will find it’s way
Right in front of you
As you try to take a picture of
The view in front of you.
And with your favorite tools I’ll use
Them to make my masterpiece.
I may also use a permanent pen
And on the car I’ll write police.
Perhaps you’ll open up to find
Last night I made a meal
And looking at the mess I left
Will leave you confused at how you feel.
Or maybe one day you’ll look and find
I wore your shoes to do my chores.
Then I climbed up on the counter
And got there by climbing all the drawers.
But maybe a loving note from me
Someday you may just find.
I’ll probably use your favorite pens –
For I know that you won’t mind.
For I’m the King of Mischief
And I’m glad you’re in my lair
For no matter what the things I do
I know you’ll always care.
