Not Today’s Fool

September 4, 2021      Amy Cady

Life seems to go by way too fast! It’s easy to get caught up in the things that don’t matter but when you get a chance, be sure and embrace the things that do. 🙂

I would be a fool today
If I didn’t stop and say
“I love you!” to the ones I love
And send a Prayer of Thanks above
Each time I feel their tender touch
And realize just how much
I’m so glad they’re here with me
In this crazy family.
Oh, how fast the years go past,
And we’re left wishing they would last.
So while I have a chance today
“I love you!” is what I’ll say.

Prayers

August 21, 2021      Amy Cady

Several weeks ago, I was trying to go to sleep and the words of this poem came to me. I would turn on the light, write them down, turn off the light, and try and go back to sleep. Then it would happen again. So again I would turn on the light, write the next lines down, turn off the light, and try and go back to sleep. I think I had half of it written before I was finally able to sleep! Several days later I took advantage of some quiet time (rare with four kids!) to finish it. I have had many trials in my life and I know the best way to face them is through prayer and turning to the Savior, even when you don’t want to. Whoever this poem may be for, take courage. The Lord loves you and is on your side helping you each step of the way!

Savior, may I lean on you,
Will you help and pull me through?
Can I lay upon your breast
And will you help me through the rest?

Savior, will you hold me tight
Keep me close and shine your light?
For I can’t make it through this night
Unless I have you in my sight.

Savior, will this ever end?
Will my heartbreak ever mend?
Will I ever make it to
A place where I am just like you?

Savior, how did you make it through
The hard times that were placed on you?
How did you bear the pain and grief
Of everyone I’ll ever meet?

Savior, will you teach me how
To make it through the day somehow?
Teach me how to win the fight
And not give in to fear or fright.

Savior, can you help me love,
Be kind and good like Father above?
Help me always make good choices
And not listen to the worldly voices.

Savior will you ever know
How glad I am you help me grow?
That by my side you always stay
Anytime of any day.

Savior, what can I do
To help others to draw close to you?
How can I help them see your face
And feel your peace and love and grace?

Savior, is there any way
That I can pay you back someday?
For all the things you’ve done for me –
The person that you help me be.

Savior, help me do thy will,
Listen to the Voice so still.
Give me courage ever more
To face whatever is in store.

Savior, help me always do
Exactly what you need me to.
For when my life is all complete
Next to you is where I want my seat.

Featured Poem – If I Trust in the Lord

August 18, 2021      Amy Cady

It’s that time of year! We are winding down on Summer and gearing up for Back to School around our house. Maybe you are too. As I’ve been getting ready for Homeschool Year 2021-2022, I’ve frequently been going in and out of our school room. On the door of our school room, we have a little chalk board. Sometimes we write little messages on it for fun. Sometimes it’s just an erased chalk board. One evening earlier this year though, my sweet daughter wrote a little poem on our little chalk board and came and showed it to me. She was curious what I thought of it. I of course thought it was the best thing ever written!!!!! I quickly took a picture just in case someone erased it. So far it’s still there though! It’s such a sweet little treasure in the day to see it every time I go in that room. With her permission, I decided to share it here. 🙂

If I Trust in the Lord
By Madalyn Cady (March 2021 – age 9)

I may not walk on water
And I may not calm a sea,
But I know if I trust the Lord
He will trust in me.

Choices

August 14, 2021      Amy Cady

I don’t know about you but I feel bombarded with choices most days. Should I have waffles or pancakes? Hair down or ponytail? Reach out to a friend or start laundry? Dishes or play a game with my kids? Chocolate or chocolate??? Sometimes it is a little overwhelming! What if I make the wrong choice?? What will I do? But really when we stop and think about it, some choices are the best choices overall and when we are making those, everything else falls into place. 🙂

Did you have a need today
To pray for help in any way?
Did you have a chance to share
The gospel message anywhere?
Did you notice blessings more
Than you did the day before?
Did you have a chance to be
Kinder then you meant to be?
Did you stop and look for good
Within the people in your neighborhood?
Were you more just like a child –
Humble, meek, and always mild?
Did you take the chance to read
Your scriptures more than just in deed?
Did you stop and listen to
The spirit as it spoke to you?
Did you humbly bow your head
And heed the words the Prophet said?

Or did you hold your head up high
And shake your fist up at the sky?
Harden your heart a little more
Than it was the day before?
Make the choice to get real mad,
Ignoring those who were real sad?
Take from those who were in need,
Let your heart consume with greed?
Mock the words that came from God,
Trample them like feet on sod?
Let your heart hold onto fast
All the things that will not last?
Take your trust from God to Man
Who changes like the shifting sand?
In this life we have a choice –
To listen to the still small voice
Or try to make it on our own
But maybe end up all alone.

We have the chance to choices make,
So which path will you choose to take?

Humble Success

August 11, 2021      Amy Cady

How do you view success? How often do we view things of this world as the most important? But what if we have it wrong? And true success is the simple things that no one sees us do each day, but bring us closer to God? Would you change your habits if you knew this to be true? Humble Christ-like habits are always worth the effort!

He may be just a farmer with a plow,
20 chickens and some cows.
He may grow the food his family eats
And be the kindest that you meet.
But that’s not the most important work he’ll do –
Grow the food for me and you.
Because the things that earn him his Gate key
Are the things he does that we don’t see.
Each time he humbly bows his head
Before climbing in his warm bed.
Each night he Leads his family’s prayers
Before they tiredly climb the stairs.
Quietly Filling his family tree
With names another didn’t see.
The way he’s never second guessing
When someone asks him for a blessing.
How he humbly takes on each new Call
But feels like soon he’s going to fall.
That its not a sacrifice
To attend the temple more then twice.
How he fills his home with love
And lots peace just like a dove.
Keeping Promises that he’s made
And not letting each one fade.
Yes, The things that earn him his Gate key
Are the things he does that we don’t see
And How he always tries his best
And lets Jesus fill in the rest.

The Life of a Bishop’s Wife

August 7, 2021      Amy Cady

My husband is currently serving as the Bishop in our ward. Some Sundays it’s hard to tell who is more tired at the end of the day – him or me! I always knew that the calling of Bishop was a hard, busy calling (and I think he’s doing a great job!!) but once I became a Bishop’s Wife, I gained a whole new appreciation for all the Bishop’s wives out there! Especially the ones with younger kids at home, like in our family. This is definitely not the easiest phase of life I’ve ever been in, and we may not be seeing all the blessings now, but I know Heavenly Father is aware of our sacrifices and the blessings will come.

While at church I sat and smiled
And watched my husband for a while
He took your tithing, shook your hands
Quietly listened to your plans
And then at 10, with humble heart
He took his seat so we could start
Then after prayers and three talks too
He once again shook hands with you
He chatted with the youth some more
Then walked with them there out the door
At 11:05 he started to teach
Listened kindly and didn’t preach
12 o’clock was time for home
But with our four I drove home alone.
For he must stay and meet with some –
We won’t see him until he’s done.
I’ve spent the day with our Four,
I got them ready and out the door:
Waited for shoes to all be found,
I’ve chased our toddler all around.
Calmed our deacon from his fright
Of passing the sacrament just right.
Combed the wild, tangled curls
Of our only baby girl
Rocked the baby as he slept.
And listened to your talk and wept
Grateful for the Savior more
Then I’ve ever been before.
Once my husband gets home too
We’ll read and study something new
Come Follow Me time for the week,
More like Christ is what we seek.
And with our toddler on his lap
My husband tries now not to nap.
Later after we all eat,
But before it’s time to sleep,
We snuggle up and watch a show.
Then it’s prayers and bed we go.
It’s goodnight to my Favorite Five –
I feel the luckiest alive.
Life’s not easy, no it’s not.
But I’m grateful for my lot.
Blessings come in many ways
Even on the hardest days.
We made it through another day,
Another crazy, busy Sunday.
This won’t always be my life
But for now, I’m the Bishop’s wife.
