Dreams {A Poem by Madalyn!}

I had a birthday a few weeks ago. I’ve had a lot of crazy birthdays in my life, (like my grandma died on my birthday one year for instance) and my birthday often causes me a great deal of anxiety, so my family tries hard every year to make it a great day. This year, Madalyn spent all her hard-earned money on a sweet little box of gifts for me. There were some snacks, a candle, a card, and a little notebook and pen. (She knows me well! 😉 )The best surprise was a little poem I found in the inside cover of the little notebook. A little poem that she wrote herself just for me! Of course I’ll treasure it always. ❤

My Little Brothers {A Poem by Madalyn!}

I have a notebook I carry around everywhere I go. It’s where I write poems or ideas for poems. Occasionally, when I’m not paying attention, my kids will add random things to my collection. Like this little poem Madalyn wrote last year. Maybe she is glad to have little brothers around… 🙂

My Little Brothers

Amazing as can be.

The Savior’s Love {A Poem by Madalyn!}

I challenged Madalyn to write a poem about the Savior or Easter this week. She made several attempts and the computer deleted one so there was frustration. But then later that day she got an excited look and asked for the computer. This sweet gem is what she gave me. 😍

So much He died with humility.
To save us from all death and sin,

A Walk in the Meadow {A Poem by Madalyn!}

Madalyn wrote this poem just for fun a few months ago. She loves nature and being outdoors. In fact, it is sometimes a challenge to get her back in for things like schoolwork or dinner… 🙂 She also loves to write poems and draw pictures about nature. It is always a fun treat when she shares them with me. And so, I’ll share with you. 😍

A Walk in the Meadow

A walk in the meadow
With trees all around.
The birds are chirping.
There’re leaves on the ground.

A walk in the meadow
With cows eating grass.
It is sad to know
How fast time can pass.

A walk in the meadow
Of which God made.
I think of His teachings
As I lie in the shade.

Pondering {A Poem by Madalyn!}

My daughter recently started studying the life and poems of Emily Dickinson in her Literature Family School lessons. As port of their discussion for literature a few weeks ago in Power Hour they were each asked to write a poem on pondering. It was something Emily Dickinson did and its important in our lives as well. Madalyn shared her poem with her class and then her poetry/literature/writing obsessed mom (who also loves everything she writes) afterwards, and since she knew what my next question was before I even asked it…, here it is for you too. 😍

Pondering

Is a simple thing.
We do it every day.
We do it during scriptures
And we do it when we pray.

Pondering –
Is a simple thing.
The prophets do it too.
They also know how good it is
For you and me to do.
