Where Do You Turn?

March 28, 2024      Amy Cady

My life sometimes feels like an unrelenting tale of Hard Things. At times I feel like I really have no idea what to do with situations Life has thrown at me. Sometimes all I want to do/and do is hide under the covers and cry. But when I remember how Jesus really does know all I go through, I feel a little less alone and things get a little easier, a little more tolerable. So, whatever troubles your mind today, invite the Savior into your journey and He will gladly help.

Where do you turn when life feels so black?
And no one you know at all has your back?
When long is the day and longer the night,
And each one filled with tumultuous fright?
When the storms around you continue to blow,
And it seems there is no safe place to go?

Do you turn to things of worldly relief?
That are really disguised sneaky peace thief’s?
That promise respite and shelter for you,
But really the dark and storms they accrue.
Where “friends” are not – quite what they seem,
And the things that you long for they’ll never esteem.

Well, take my hand and instead turn to Him.
The one with the strength and the beautiful grin.
Who bore the storms and troubles for you,
And knows exactly what you go through.
Whose peace is exactly what your heart longs to find –
The kind that truly envelopes you mind.
Whose road may not be the easiest way,
But the one to be on when your deep in dismay.
He’s truly the very best kind of friend –
The only one who can truly amend
Each of the troubles and strife’s that you bare –
He’ll heal and he’ll tend each one with great care.
For He truly is the Great Prince of Peace.
The only one who can make your storms cease.

Our Homeschool Adventures – 2023

August 23, 2023      Amy Cady

I’m going a bit off script today for a quick moment and sharing a tiny peak of the behind the scenes at the Cady house Homeschool Life.

My little band of kiddos started school this week. (Where did the summer go???) We are always trying and exploring new things. This year we are continuing our journey through American Heritage School Worldwide’s online programs. They have student-led and parent-led options. My oldest son will be starting their online high school program, Scholar Connect, and my oldest daughter will be doing the LiftEd Middle School program this year. I am loving LiftEd as it takes quite a bit of the burden off my shoulders. It also allows my kids to have social opportunities and it’s all faith based. She will continue to do Math and Language Arts using the Good and the Beautiful curriculum because I still love the Good and the Beautiful too. (They just don’t quite have the high school and middle school support I would love.) And I still want to have some role in her direct learning.

My little boys will be doing Preschool with me using the Good and the Beautiful curriculum as well. And the baby will be getting as many snuggles as she can manage. She’s a gem so that’s not too difficult. 🙂

If you are thinking of taking the plunge into homeschooling some sweet little/big people in your life but not excited or sure if you can do it all yourself, I highly recommend AHS’s online programs. If you are interested in learning more or trying LiftEd yourself, you can go here and create a free parent account. They can explain their program much better than I. American Heritage Worldwide likes to offer discounts so feel free to use my referral code when you open the link. Right now, it is a free month of Explorer Time for each of your kiddos you enroll. Pretty sweet!

Best of luck to us all as we head into another school year!

Little Things

August 11, 2023      Amy Cady

Where do you let your life take you each day? Do you let the things that everyone thinks are important make your decisions? Or do you have trust in a bigger picture? Interesting to think about, isn’t it?

It’s the Little Things we do
That add up one by one.
That will add up to a Big Thing
When our life is said and done.
Little smiles and little hugs,
Kind words to those we meet.
How we treat our family
And those with little feet.
The truth that hides within our hearts
When we serve those in our life –
Was it truly with the love we said?
Or bitter, prideful strife?
What we said when we were right
And someone else was wrong.
How we treated people
From a different thinking throng.
The effort that we put in
Those callings that are “small”
That someday we will find out
Weren’t simply “small” at all.
Little thing by little thing –
They add up one by one,
And take us far from God above
Or more just like His Son.
So, what will the little things
Build up high for you? –
That you will find there waiting
When with God, your life you view.
For me, I’ll take the little things,
And choose to be like Him.
Choose to live my life with love,
And not so much with sin.
And then the thing that I will find,
I’ve built when life is done,
Is a mansion of my Father’s
That I have humbly won.

Two Roads

August 1, 2023      Amy Cady

I recently had a week where I struggled with overwhelming self-doubt. I was about to give up on several of the dreams I’ve had forever because it just didn’t feel worth it. I lack the talent so what’s the point? Why am I even trying to do this thing? No one cares! These were some of the thoughts I had over and over. And over and over. My husband was working long, long, overtime hours at work and I couldn’t talk to him. And then I had an epiphany. If I’m being overwhelmed by self-doubt then I’m probably on the right path! The path that is hard and full of struggles. The path the adversary doesn’t want me on. The one my brain is trying to protect me from. The one that also brings courage and strength to others. Once I realized that, I felt so much better! So, if’ you are struggling with your own self-doubt, have courage! You are probably just where you need to be.

There are two roads to take each day.
One is safe, most rarely stray.
The other bends with twists and turns.
Has many risks and some concern.
It might be where you make it big.
Might be a hole you didn’t dig.
It might have sun and beaches too.
Or maybe rain, no sign of blue.
It might be where your dreams fly free.
Or it might be where your friends all flee.
It’s a place fears love to live.
But also, where big dreamers give.
Sometimes you’re not sure, the road you’re on,
Or wonder if it’s the right road you’ve gone.
Maybe self-doubt is plaguing you,
And you hope for a safe bridge or two,
Then that just might be the place to be –
The road that has the special key –
To get you where you need to be.
A road above all life’s debris.
So, keep on, keep on, and push ahead.
Keep the course and prayers you’ve plead.
For you’re courageous, brave and strong,
And the hard road’s just where you belong.

Thy Will

July 11, 2023      Amy Cady

Are you great at jumping in and doing whatever it is that other’s need from you? Or is there a bit of complaining along the way? A bit of resistance? Maybe a bit of pride? Okay, maybe that’s just me! 🙂 It’s not always easy to submit your will to Heavenly Father’s and do what He needs you to do. It takes a lot of maturity to look beyond your own needs and think of those of someone else instead. It takes the heart of humility. But someday we will learn the full effects our service had on those we served. And those efforts will have all been worth it.

What do you need me to do today?
What do you need me to be?
Where do you need me to go today?
What do you need from me?
Who do you need me to help today?
Where can I lend a hand?
Who is in need of my time today?
Where is my love in demand?

Becoming

July 2, 2023      Amy Cady

Growing and changing and becoming better can be so hard! Most people fight it and hide from it and try to avoid it at all costs. Don’t let this be you! The person we grow and become is the person the world needs us to be. So, keep on trying and trying again. God, your loved ones, and especially your future self will be so grateful you did.

This isn’t failure.
You’re simply growing more.
What seems to be a lot of pain
Is strengthening your core.
You can’t see the beauty that is You
But I see it in your face.
So, hug the try and try agains
And with each one embrace
That the new You is replacing
Those imperfect parts you had.
And each part is much better,
And soon you’ll be so glad
Because the You that’s reaching now
Is the one your meant to be,
The You that’s reaching now
Is the one that God foresees.
So, pick yourself up once again,
And crawl up off that floor,
This isn’t failure in any way.
You’re simply growing more.
