Let’s Meet at Jesus

August 23, 2023      Amy Cady

There are so many people who have “answers” to life’s quandaries. Some are good answers. Some are crazy. I hope that no matter the difficulty – whether it’s something small or something overwhelming – that you always remember the Savior as the first place to reach out to. He may not be with you in person, but when you have the faith to reach for him, little miracles will always find you. ❤

Mother, where will we meet
If somehow we separate?
Where should I go, that’s somewhere safe,
While I sit and wait?
Who should I find to help me out
While I wait for you to come?
Who should I find to help me out
To help me to become?
Who will love me just like you
While I wait for you again?
Who will teach me just like you
More than every now and then?
Mother, where should I go,
If life takes us far apart?
Who will know you’ll always be
Deep within my heart?

My child, if ever we separate,
And you need to find a friend,
If I can’t walk right by your side
Until the very end.
If you need to find a place to wait
Or look for me instead,
The only place for us to go
Is the place that angels tread.
The one to seek to help you out,
To help you to become,
The one to love and teach you too,
Just like I have done.
My child if somehow, we separate,
And need a place to meet,
The only place that we should go –
Let’s meet at Jesus’ feet.

Our Homeschool Adventures – 2023

August 23, 2023      Amy Cady

I’m going a bit off script today for a quick moment and sharing a tiny peak of the behind the scenes at the Cady house Homeschool Life.

My little band of kiddos started school this week. (Where did the summer go???) We are always trying and exploring new things. This year we are continuing our journey through American Heritage School Worldwide’s online programs. They have student-led and parent-led options. My oldest son will be starting their online high school program, Scholar Connect, and my oldest daughter will be doing the LiftEd Middle School program this year. I am loving LiftEd as it takes quite a bit of the burden off my shoulders. It also allows my kids to have social opportunities and it’s all faith based. She will continue to do Math and Language Arts using the Good and the Beautiful curriculum because I still love the Good and the Beautiful too. (They just don’t quite have the high school and middle school support I would love.) And I still want to have some role in her direct learning.

My little boys will be doing Preschool with me using the Good and the Beautiful curriculum as well. And the baby will be getting as many snuggles as she can manage. She’s a gem so that’s not too difficult. 🙂

If you are thinking of taking the plunge into homeschooling some sweet little/big people in your life but not excited or sure if you can do it all yourself, I highly recommend AHS’s online programs. If you are interested in learning more or trying LiftEd yourself, you can go here and create a free parent account. They can explain their program much better than I. American Heritage Worldwide likes to offer discounts so feel free to use my referral code when you open the link. Right now, it is a free month of Explorer Time for each of your kiddos you enroll. Pretty sweet!

Best of luck to us all as we head into another school year!

Little Things

August 11, 2023      Amy Cady

Where do you let your life take you each day? Do you let the things that everyone thinks are important make your decisions? Or do you have trust in a bigger picture? Interesting to think about, isn’t it?

It’s the Little Things we do
That add up one by one.
That will add up to a Big Thing
When our life is said and done.
Little smiles and little hugs,
Kind words to those we meet.
How we treat our family
And those with little feet.
The truth that hides within our hearts
When we serve those in our life –
Was it truly with the love we said?
Or bitter, prideful strife?
What we said when we were right
And someone else was wrong.
How we treated people
From a different thinking throng.
The effort that we put in
Those callings that are “small”
That someday we will find out
Weren’t simply “small” at all.
Little thing by little thing –
They add up one by one,
And take us far from God above
Or more just like His Son.
So, what will the little things
Build up high for you? –
That you will find there waiting
When with God, your life you view.
For me, I’ll take the little things,
And choose to be like Him.
Choose to live my life with love,
And not so much with sin.
And then the thing that I will find,
I’ve built when life is done,
Is a mansion of my Father’s
That I have humbly won.

Hey, Dad!

June 18, 2023      Amy Cady

It’s Father’s Day time! Do the dads in your life hear this phrase often? It’s definitely said a lot at my house. Sometimes it accompanies things that make your blood pressure go up a few points. Sometimes its accompanied by things that make your heart melt. Maybe dads need more than just a day in celebration of all they do… If the dads in your life can relate, be sure and treat them extra special today. They’ve earned it. ❤

Hey, Dad! Are you glad?
I washed your tools with paint!
And then I rearranged your things
And did it without complaint!

Hey, Dad! Are you glad?
I fed the dog your food!
It looked like you were finished,
And it might improve your mood!

Hey, Dad! Are you glad?
I took your favorite chair!
I also ate your ice cream,
And got food stuck in your hair!

Hey, Dad! Are you glad?
I left the water on!
I was thinking I could wash my feet,
And water the front lawn!

Hey, Dad! Are you glad?
I took apart your stuff!
And now the walls can use your touch,
They were looking pretty rough!

Hey, Dad! Are you glad?
I’m in your family?
I’m not sure anyone else
Could love you just like me.

My To-Do List

June 12, 2023      Amy Cady

I am going to be real here: I am unable to get all the things I need done in a day. Let alone all the things I need and want to get done in a day. For example, while trying to type up this little poem I neglected the dishes because I was writing. I also had to stop writing because I had to give a mama hug to a poor little two-year-old who had crashed his bike, cut up an apple for a snack, swat a million bugs away, and pet dogs a million times who thought they needed my attention more then I needed to be writing. There I said it. Whew. Now you know a tiny bit of how much I don’t get done! (Life with kids…) As you might imagine, this little poem came about from asking myself in exasperation “How will I get all the things done??” The short answer is: I won’t. And that’s okay. Instead, I will remind myself that it’s okay and instead try my best to get the most important things done and focus on the most important things I can do.

How will I get the Things all done –
The list I made, then set the sun?
Feed and wash and clothe each kid,
Then fold the towels my son redid.
Wash and put away each dish,
Then make a dinner, quite delish.
Study and read the word of God,
And spend two weeks traveling abroad.
Hug and kiss and make things right,
Then hide the clutter form my sight.
Finish projects needed done,
And still find time for extra fun.
Find time for hobbies, new and old.
Increase my wealth at least tenfold.
Oh, how will I get the things all done,
And find my sanity, I’ve not outrun.
It seems to me the thing to do
Is no longer chase down something new,
But focus on the things of worth,
Things eternal, not just of the earth.
And miracles may soon unfold
Within the walls of this household.
For aligning with the things of God
Melts away the Great Facade,
Illuminates the things to do,
Gives me strength to make it through.
And so, I’ll throw away my list
And keep God’s in mind for my new checklist.

Shelter

May 17, 2023      Amy Cady

Life is always an adventure! Sometimes it seems the world is nothing but a crazy depressing place to be, right? For me, it’s hard to not feel down about the future and life in general when in that Hole. Thankfully it doesn’t need to be that way! Everyone has a different place to turn for love and warmth that fight that cold and darkness. (Also helps to stay away from News Holes and depressing people in general. You know who I mean. We all have them in our lives.) For me, my kids and my husband are the joy that lifts me up. They can make me laugh over the silliest things. What’s yours? Make sure you hold it tight and never let it go. ❤

When the world is cold and dark,
I know just where to warm my heart.
I watch two little dirty feet
Bring a smile to me, to meet.
I watch two little brothers play
And laugh and play the day away.
Admire the beautiful work of art
From my daughter’s artist heart.
Soak in the little baby smiles –
They lift and carry me for miles.
Laugh and smile at a joke well told
By my son, worth more than gold.
Find peace and strength in a warm embrace
And always love in my husband’s face.
And while the world may always be
As cold and dark as it can be
I know that warmth is always found
When my loved ones are around.
